The engine oil filter is a very important element of the lubrication system and its main task is to clean the oil circulating in the engine system from organic and mineral impurities. The threaded metal oil filter is a filter whose main task is to remove the smallest contaminants from the oil, down to 1/50 mm in size. The structure of the filter is very simple and consists of a threaded metal canister and a paper insert inside, arranged in a so-called accordion to enlarge the filter surface. Contamination of the oil for which we use the filter most often occurs, in the case of organic contaminants, from breakdown of the oil itself during operation, from fuel residues or from oxidation by-products. Mineral contaminants are air pollutants and metal particles that occur in the engine during operation. The filter is most often fitted to the side of the engine and a clean, unused oil filter has a direct impact on engine operation and service life, fuel consumption and, in extreme cases, a clogged oil filter can lead to engine overheating and head gasket damage. Always replace the oil filter together with the oil change at the frequency specified in the operating instructions for your machine.
