The engine oil filter is a very important element of the lubrication system and its main task is to clean the oil circulating in the engine system from organic and mineral impurities. The metal , screwed , oil filter is a filter whose main task is to remove the smallest impurities from the oil, even 1/50 mm in size. The construction of the filter is very simple and consists of a metal box with thread and a paper insert inside arranged in a so-called accordion to increase the filtering surface. The oil contamination, for which we use the filter, occurs most often, in the case of organic impurities, from breakdown of the oil itself during operation, from fuel residues or are by-products of oxidation. Mineral impurities are air impurities and metal particles that occur in the engine during operation.
The filter is most often mounted on the side of the engine and a clean, unused oil filter has a direct impact on engine operation and service life, fuel consumption and in extreme cases a clogged oil filter can lead to engine overheating and head gasket damage. The oil filter should always be replaced together with the oil change at the frequency specified in the operating instructions of the machine.
